About Helen
I am a recent high school graduate who earned a 770 math (just one wrong) and 770 verbal, so I know exactly what it takes to do well on the SATs. Those scores resulted in acceptances from Stanford, Columbia, Berkeley, Tufts, Emory, and GA Tech. I have experience as a Peer Tutoring Coordinator and tutor at my high school as well as mentorship and private elementary tutoring. I am willing to spend the time and effort outside of our meetings to make sure that I provide quality, personalized tutoring for each student.
I know how annoying SATs are to take, but I also know how amazing doing well feels. The best and most enjoyable part about tutoring is helping students succeed.
I recently took the SATs myself and was able to succeed by making myself a practice schedule and sticking to it. I ended up completing every practice problem offered by the College Board on Khan Academy.

I usually assign SAT problems from either a prep book or Khan Academy ahead of time then go over the problems in our meetings. Going over problems will include, of course, showing the right answer, but also providing techniques so that the student will get similar problems right the next time. Once I see areas of difficulty, we will work out problems together, and I will assign more related problems. I will also set a schedule with achievable goals because organization in studying is a big step towards doing well on the SAT. And, most importantly, I will be rooting for students along the way.
Experience is key. This includes not just experience tutoring, but also the experience of taking the test.
