About David
My unique style has been heavily influenced by a childhood in Southern California where I spent much of the time at Disneyland sketching the themed rides and animatronic characters. I began creating animated robotic creatures in my mother's garage when I was in junior high school. When I entered college at Wichita State University in 1979, I became a theater technical major, focusing on special effects.
After a move to Texas, I enrolled in the University of North Texas and changed my major to Industrial Engineering with a minor in Radio, Television & Film. While this may seem a crazy choice and unrelated, in actuality, my decision to become an engineer harks back to the "Imagineers" at Disney.
I have remained active in theater, creating creatures, special effects and sound design for live productions. I have worked in several large venues, including the Dallas Children's Theatre, where I created several animatronic animals. I also worked with the St. Croix Festival Theatre where I brought to life all four sizes of Audrey II, the man-eating plant in "Little Shop of Horrors." Character and performance has always influenced my work.
Today, I’m exploring the the things that challenge all my skills. Animatronics, educational displays, sound design, theater & sculpture . Anything that will get an emotional response from an audience or educate on an important topic. I understand complicated concepts and can distilled them into something that the general public can understand and might find entertaining.
