About Karen
I began teaching guitar and voice 5 years ago. I left a career in healthcare to follow my passion, music. I get greater satisfaction from sharing my knowledge and skill in music with people than I do performing for people. I am a very patient and encouraging, affirmative teacher. There are no bad students, just different ways of learning.
I have been singing and playing guitar for 40 years. I have studied with various guitar teacher over the years with formal education in Music Theory, Voice and Jazz Guitar through Manchester Community College and the National Guitar Summer Workshop. I have educational experience with internship students from UCONN while at Baystate Medical Center. I was responsible to their program curriculum, teaching and hands-on training for laboratory sciences.

It is important for me to get to know the student personally. It helps to understand the best method from which they learn (ie, reading listening or doing) and their level of interest and commitment to learning a new skill. I like to assess their level of musical/instrument knowlege. I can guarantee the student will be playing and or singing on the first lesson.
I have worked primarly with beginner students with a wide range of musical/instrument knowledge.
I would advise the student to explore/familiarize themselves with the subject beforehand. In the case of the guitar, they should pick one up and get a feel for the instrument and decide if they feel comfortable with it. With regards to voice/singing, they should record their voice to become familiar with it.
I taught some children at my local church how to play a song with a penny whistle and perform it for the congregation. It was great to see the pride on their faces when the congregation applauded them.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The student should decide their level of commitment to acquiring knowledge and developing this new skill. Learning to sing or play and instrument takes practice, practice, practice.

Details
$75 - Initial lesson will include 30 minute interview and discussion followed by 30 minute lesson in Beginner Voice or Guitar. (Student can purchase a beginners level guitar ~$100 through me if desired.)
$45 - Follow up lessons will be 30 minutes
Cost for additional lesson books and materials TBD based on students needs (~$25)
