About Dylan
As a Summa Cumme Laude double-major and double-minor honors graduate from Azusa Pacific University, I am passionate about learning, helping others, and sharing the keys to success in school. However, the ultimate purpose of education is broader than the mere classroom. It is the classic question of any young student to ask, “How does what I am learning apply to my life?” As a tutor, that is exactly what I hope to help my students discover. The purpose of reading Shakespeare is not only to understand 16th century England, but to sharpen our own minds, logic, and rhetoric for how we interact with the world today.
The joy of teaching is seeing students succeed. No matter how old we get, there is always more to learn, so life is a constant cycle of self-improvement. The purpose of learning is not merely for ourselves, but so that we can share what we have learned with others and benefit the overall health of our community and world. Education is the process of passing down from one generation to the next.
Teaching started for me as early as high school. I come from a family of five with two siblings, one brother and one sister, both younger. While my parents were busy at work, often times I was asked to help my siblings with their homework and course material. Having already completed the highest level of Spanish courses offered during my senior year of high school, I served as the teacher’s assistant for our college level AP Spanish Language class. I helped students with their translations, articulation, and graded their examinations. Later in college, I joined a rhetoric group where a group of honors students gathered to critic, edit, and encourage each others’ written work.
When I entered high school, I began taking high level courses from the start. As a freshman, I enrolled in Spanish III and Honors History. I would go on to complete Honors Chemistry, AP English Language, AP Spanish Language, AP Statistics, and a college level Human Anatomy course. My sophomore year of high school, the Denver Seminary awarded me the C.S. Lewis Theological Writers Award for my scholarship on an essay exploring the theology of war and pacifism. I went on to serve our inaugural student government in a variety of roles: Sophomore Class President, Executive Chaplain, and–eventually–Executive Student Body President. Upon graduation, I was awarded the Eagle Award. This is only given to one male and one female recipient each year to showcase their academic achievement, leadership service, and genuine heart and care for the surrounding community.
During undergraduate, I was invited by Azusa Pacific University’s Honors College to become a Trustee’s Scholar. From every incoming freshman class, the board of Trustees vets thousands of applicants, personally interviews forty, and offers their full time scholarship to five. These are the people that have demonstrated a strong caliber of academic success and that they believe will contribute to the overall culture and well-being of the institution. After four years, I graduated from APU with a BFA in Acting, double major in Honors Humanities, and a double minor in Spanish and Business Management.

The greatest motivator in education is to uncover the why we study. When I begin working with a student, I challenge them to discover their why.
Mainly students looking to grow in the areas of English, Writing, Grammar, Spanish, Philosophy, Biblical Studies, History, Theater, Acting, and Public Speaking
Find someone with whom you simply click. Always pick the teacher over the subject. The worst teacher can ruin the best subject and the best subject can be ruined by the worst teacher.
