About Mary

I have a teaching degree in Spanish and English as a Second Language and have been an online teacher since 2017! For students who want to meet online, I have a quality and consistent setup, and I am willing to travel in the Lincoln area to help students in a face-to-face setting.

I provide tutoring in Spanish, English as a second language for non-native speakers and English language and literature for native speakers.

If language isn't your passion, it can be difficult to even know how and what to study. If it is your passion, I am experienced and dedicated to helping you take the next step! I have experience working with students of every grade, from preschool all the way to 12th.

My family is a family of teachers three generations back and my love for languagade this profession an obvious choice. I taught ESL in three different countries and I knew that teaching any language was the right thing for me.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with an emphasis on secondary education in Spanish and English as a Second Language. I have worked as an online ESL teacher for over a year and have taught and tutored students in Spanish at an elementary, middle, and high school level.

I have taught English in the United States, China, and Japan.

About the lesson

I understand that not every student has the same learning goals. I start the tutoring process by identifying clear objectives, strengths, and weaknesses for each student and creating a custom-made plan to identify each of those areas. I like to get to know the student's personality and teach them in a style that they respond to best.

I am proud to say I have worked with students of every grade from preschool to 12th grade. I have also worked extensively with young adult and adult students. For ESL, I have worked with students from many different countries and I don't need to know their first language in order to help them.

Hire a teacher with a diverse teaching background that has worked with many students. Language and language learning is a very personal experience and a teacher should have experience adapting their style to match their students.

A Chinese student of mine that I have been working with for 6 months recently took her middle school placement exam and placed first in her class in the English section with a score of 99.5%. She has improved so much since I met her and I could not be more proud. She was bursting to tell me the news and it was an exciting moment for both of us.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do I want to achieve this month? In six months? What do I want my language ability to look like a year from now and why? How do I learn best, visually, auditorily, actively? How quickly do I need to achieve my goals (i.e is there a test in a month I really want to pass, or can we take it slowly and build up a solid foundation?)
