About Karla

my name is Karla, I grew up speaking Spanish in my house and I love teaching others. I get excited to teach Spanish and see the student excited that they can speak Spanish and also it's beautiful to help others learn part of my culture through a language!

I started teaching just random people and also friends.

All of my life speaking Spanish!! I have spoken it all my life and there is honestly nothing better than someone to teach you who speaks a language that they learned their whole upbringing. I have seen people tell me they have attended Spanish classes at university or in high school and have such limited learning because what is needed is someone who speaks Spanish to speak it with you constantly because that is natural and how you learn any language!

About the lesson

Usually I just start with the most basic thing, CONVERSATIONS! I just talk to student in Spanish in like one sentence and have them repeat and understand it. I talk about things they like and show them how to say it in Spanish. I recommend Spanish music and give them a bit of practice homework.

I've worked with Americans who speak only English. I've worked with people who spoke Vietnamese.

Look for people who speak Spanish from when they are small and also have an understanding of the culture because you will get insider secrets you may not get elsewhere. Also, look for someone who will help with your pronunciation, it is the difference between being able to communicate with spanish speakers and someone not understanding you at all.

I'm fond of a time when I taught a friend Spanish and they started speaking a whole sentence in Spanish in a snappy way and it made me laugh because it made me proud that they learned what I had been teaching them.

How long do you want to dedicate to Spanish learning? Are you serious and willing to put in the effort required to learn? Can you learn to get over your shyness and be bold and speak Spanish even if you are afraid you will sound silly?
