About Jennifer

Jennifer Landis is a freelance trombonist and music teacher in Western New York. Jennifer is co-founder of the Buffalo Civic Orchestra and (716) TROMBONES.

Locally, she has also performed with Cheektowaga Community Symphony, Orchard Park Symphony, Amherst Symphony, The American Legion Band of the Tonawandas, and the Ladies First Jazz Big Band.

In Southern California, Jennifer has performed with the Orange County Symphony, Young Musicians Debut Orchestra, Vietnamese-American Philharmonic, Orange County Four Seasons Symphony, Golden State Pops Orchestra, and Topanga Philharmonic.

Ms. Landis began her musical studies in Buffalo, NY as a pianist and percussionist at age ten, while learning trumpet, trombone and euphonium at age sixteen. She studied music education and music performance at the University of Buffalo.

Her journey continued to Long Beach, California, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Trombone Performance at California State University, Long Beach. As a soloist, Jennifer was featured with at the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association Festival, under the direction of John Carnahan, and has performed many recitals in the Los Angeles area. She was a longtime member of the Moravian Trombone Choir of Downey, Pacific Brass Ensemble, and many other chamber ensembles.

Jennifer studied trombone with Richard Myers of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Jeffrey Reynolds of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Cristian Ganicenco of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Before moving back to Western New York, Jennifer was enrolled in a Master’s Degree program at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.

In 2013, Jennifer auditioned and was accepted to the prestigious Northwestern University Summer Trombone Workshop, where she studied under Michael Mulcahy of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

In 2018, Jen performed at the Southeast Trombone Symposium, working with Joseph Alessi and Steve Lange
