About Alex

Hi! I'm Alex Tey (she/they pronouns), and I'm a trumpet player, composer, and arranger. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I attend the New York University School of Liberal Studies (currently on semester leave of absence) with a prospective major in music.

As someone who began studying music as a child and found my passion with the trumpet at the age of 10, I know firsthand how much of an impact an instructor can make on a young musician. I've been fortunate to perform with ensembles in a variety of genres, including jazz, musical theater, chamber, classical, and marching music. (A full list of performance credits, as well as work samples, can be found on my website at (concealed information)

I love to share my passion for music with my students by giving them tools to succeed that are rooted in my own experiences as a developing musician.

I have ten years of experience playing trumpet, and have studied with multiple private teachers to learn about different styles of music and approaches to musicianship. I have extensive experience as a performer in a variety of genres (pre-COVID, I was a member of wind band, Latin jazz, and musical theater ensembles), and also compose and arrange music.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching involves working with the student to develop a customized curriculum with the aim of cultivating technical skills and musicianship in the student's areas of interest.

I work with beginner and intermediate students, but can provide referrals to teachers for advanced study.
