About Isaac

Whether you want to play classical or improvise in a jazz setting, I have the tools to help you grow as a player. I've been a gigging trumpet player since I was a freshmen in High School. Every year I get offered to play taps on Veterans Day as well as playing at a church on Easter. I am an alternate for the Wilmington Symphony and have played with the Wilmington Symphonic Winds. Most of my gigs are classical; however, I mostly practice Jazz. I have performed with Big Bands, combos, New Orleans style parades, and community musicals.

I started teaching as a way to make money and do what I love. I have had bad lessons and good lessons from many teachers. Having these experiences has motivated me to allow students to have some structure in their lessons while still allowing creativity on the instrument.

I recieved my B.A in Music from UNCW and have been playing trumpet for twelve years now. I have studied under many great trumpet players like Tom browne, Dr. Locagnata and Kevin Day.

About the lesson

If it is an experienced student I will hear them play some long tones or a simple etude. This allows me to get a feel for the strengths and weaknesses of the player. If the student is new to the instrument I will start them out with mouthpiece sirens. This allows them to get comfortable with the mouthpiece so that they can form an understanding of how to form an embouchure and move their air.

I have worked people who have never touched the instrument all the way up to high schoolers.

I would say find a teacher who plays the way you want to play.
