About Angela

I want to focus on providing low cost viola lessons to students who want to improve their viola technique. Before college, I was only able to afford a couple of lessons here and there, and had I been able to take consistent lessons, I would have been able to progress a lot faster than I did at the time. After starting my music performance degree at the University of North Alabama and being able to take consistent lessons from my wonderful viola professor, it helped me to achieve more in my musical career than I had ever been able to do before. By making my lessons affordable, I want to make music lessons available to a variety of students.

I have been playing viola for about nine years now. I played in DeKalb Youth Symphony for 5 years before officially deciding to pursue a degree in Music Performance at the University of North Alabama, which is one of the few universities in the United States that has a symphony categorized as semi-professional. I am currently a rising sophomore and plan on continuing my degree at University of North Alabama.

About the lesson

When starting with a new student, I first need to assess how much they already know so I can determine if they are at a beginner or intermediate level. If they are at a beginner level, I would like to begin with improving posture and basic hand positioning techniques. Then we will move on to learning how to read notes and basic musical pieces. If the student is at an intermediate level, I would like to begin with the basics of music theory, key signatures, and developing or improving existing posture and techniques.

Think about why you want to take lessons. Are you preparing for a seating audition? Are you preparing for a scholarship or university symphony audition? Or are you simply trying to improve your viola technique? Once you know your reason for lessons, it will help the teacher know how to best assist you in reaching your goal.

For a 30 minute lesson I charge $10.
For an hour lesson I charge $20.
For a 90 minute lesson I charge $30.
