About Jon

I am a classically trained violinist with a desire to pass on my knowledge to others. I was brought up through the Suzuki method, progressing to performing advanced violin solos such as Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1, and Kreisler's Preludium and Allegro, to name a few.

Throughout my childhood, I participated in several orchestras including the Howard County Gifted and Talented Orchestra and the Maryland All State Junior/Senior Orchestra. I was placed as one of the top 6 violinists in the Maryland All State Junior Orchestra.

I currently continue to keep up with my classical training while exploring contemporary avenues of making music with my violin. I have experience playing in a live band and using loop/effects pedals with an electric violin.

Whatever style of music you'd like to play with the violin, I am happy to cater the lessons to your preference!

I have taught violin throughout my playing career. I am familiar with teaching students of varying skill levels. It is always very rewarding to guide others through their musical goals!

My private teacher recommended I start teaching students when I was in high school. I started helping students prepare for auditions for their county and state orchestras and expanded to take on students of all skill levels.

I have been playing violin for over 20 years. I have participated in several orchestras during my youth, namely the Howard County Gifted and Talented Orchestra and the Maryland All State Junior/Senior orchestra. I was placed as one of the top 6 violinists in the Maryland All State Junior Orchestra.

About the lesson

I try to work with a new student to generally outline their goals for learning the violin. We will go over the styles, genres, and techniques you may want to cover. I will get a sense of your skill level and recommend how to move forward from there.

It is my opinion that every aspiring violinist benefits from classical training, and so I encourage all my students to engage in this route. However, it is not required and I am more than willing to start with a more contemporary approach.

For classical training, Suzuki methods books are preferred, and if appropriate, books on specific violin techniques may be utilized.

I have worked with students of all skill levels, ranging from brand new beginner to advanced.

Make sure you have a good rapport with the teacher. Your goals and preferences should be understood and incorporated into the overall lesson plan.
