About Cathy
I have been teaching on and off for over 20 years, but on a steady basis since 2008 when I received my degree. I have been in several symphony orchestras over the years, including 3 paid orchestras. I enjoy teaching kids age 7 through adults. I also teach beginning piano and viola.
Meeting different people and watching their progress in learning to play an instrument and achieve their goal.

I ask them if they can or cannot read music and then show them how to hold a violin. I Thenalso show them the cleff along with the lines and spaces to learn and memorize. I then show them how the book starts students plucking on open strings and eventually adds finger positions. Before long they are plucking simple songs. They do a lot of work on the A and D strings before they learn the E and G strings. After plucking for awhile, then I introduce the bow. I still use plucking to figure out finger positions and notes in orchestra.
