About Gabriel
I started learning the violin with the Suzuki method on my third birthday. I have grown up with music. Music, and the way we learn it, is hard-wired into my brain. I have studied how to build practice techniques for learning music as much as I have studied music itself. I am good at tailoring practice methods to a student’s particular needs and learning styles.
My experience with performing includes classical solo performance, ensemble performance, jazz improv, and street performance. I pull from those experiences when teaching the performative aspects of playing, qualities that go beyond technique. This allows me to provide a more holistic music education for my students.
I have extensive knowledge of music theory and can teach the basics to beginners as well as build off of a student’s foundational knowledge and teach them advanced music theory concepts, some of which fall outside of traditional western harmony. I have an intuitive understanding of the mechanics of music and can use that to teach my students greater musical expression.
I have experience in working with small children as an assistant teacher with an outdoor pre-school. I have been studying the principles of teaching for the past seven years and have taught kids in diapers as well as their parents. Due to my age, I am uniquely able to relate to children. I still remember how children think because I was one not too long ago.
