About Pierce

I have been learning music since a young age - and I'm still learning all the time! I currently play everything from violin, viola, cello, bass, to guitar, drums and piano, a little trombone and flute here and there, to even more obscure world instruments like Navajo flute and berimbau! I have a real enthusiasm for teaching people music, since I can attest to how much of an impact it has had in my own life.

I began teaching violin lessons in 2006. I've done a lot since then - I have a bachelor's degree in music performance, I have been a session violinist, lived the gig musician life for a bit, I even headed up a band program for five years! I've taught students of all ages, 3yo to (believe it or not) 63. There truly is no age at which someone can't learn something new. I strongly believe in an individual approach to teaching, because everyone has their own goals and background. Whether you are just learning for fun, or are interested in preparing for college auditions in the future, or maybe you are in your 50's and have never played a lick in your life - whether you want to play fiddle music or learn Suzuki, classical or jazz, or just to be able to play video game themes - whatever your story is, whatever your goals are, I'm confident we can make it happen.

I began teaching at a music academy run out of the church I was attending. They needed violin teachers, and I wanted to teach, so as they say, the rest is history!

- 15 years' experience in teaching private lessons on violin, cello, guitar, piano, flute, and drums

- 5 years' of experience leading a private school band program. In that time I taught the elementary, middle, and high school bands

- I have training in Suzuki pedagogy

- Currently hold a Bachelor's degree in music performance

About the lesson

My startup process is very simple - I assess current knowledge, we determine our initial goals, and then proceed from there. Any skills that need to be acquired, or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed, will be entirely determined by the student, since each person is an individual and learns differently.

I've taught all age ranges, from 3 years old to my oldest student being a 63 year old. I've taught students with physical and learning disabilities, I have taught in group class/ensemble and classroom settings. My students have ranged from absolute beginners, to college level.
