About Alice

I have a first-class English Literature degree from Exeter university, and I am currently training with the National Youth Theatre. I grew up in first in New Zealand, then near Stratford-Upon-Avon, which has kindled a lasting passion for Shakespeare and Early Modern texts. My teaching style is influenced by my personal love of literature. I begin with finding what in the text resonates with my pupil. I expand this into a discussion, which then ties into critique I think is relevant for the pupil’s individual approach, feeding this groundwork into a technique-based approach to essays (while ensuring, at all times, that they have a basic comprehension of the text). I have applied this structure, in its most simplistic form, in my work with Action Tutoring, as one of their volunteer SAT tutors. I have also worked as a private tutor for the 11+ and GCSEs (references available upon request).

Deadly! Engaging and knowledgeable
Alice is a dream tutor: engaging, enthusiastic, approachable, knowledgeable, and passionate about her subject. She's been able to remove the barrier of a screen very quickly and establish a connection. I like her approach very much because it's more of a conversation than "teaching" which makes my daughter open up, be creative, and search for ideas. Alice also gives very practical tools on how to approach 11+ types of questions and create a richer piece of writing. We will continue working with Alice.

Alice tutored my daughter with English. She enjoyed going and Alice did well to encourage her on literature she found difficult to get interested in and do well with. Alice helped her do this and she went on to do much better and enjoy english literature. After getting to know Alice well I went on to employ her as a PA in my company for a few months, and can also say that Alice is polite, reliable, honest and enthusiastic. I would employ her again as either a tutor or in any other role.
