About Ben

Music has been the driving force of my life since childhood, and sharing that passion through teaching brings me immense joy and fulfilment. After completing my undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Violin Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, I discovered that some of my most rewarding moments came not from my own performances, but from witnessing the breakthrough moments of my students - that magical instant when a difficult passage finally clicks, or when a young musician plays their first complete piece with genuine musical expression. Over the past decade, I've had the privilege of guiding students through their musical journeys, from tentative first bow holds to confident diploma-level performances, and each student has taught me something new about the art of teaching and the universal language of music. What drives me to teach is the belief that music education goes far beyond learning an instrument - it develops discipline, creativity, confidence, and emotional intelligence that enriches every aspect of life. Whether I'm helping a six-year-old discover the excitement of making their first clear note, or supporting a teenager through their Grade 8 preparation, I'm constantly reminded why I fell in love with the violin in the first place. Teaching allows me to stay connected to that wonder and excitement, while combining my technical expertise with the deeply rewarding experience of nurturing the next generation of musicians.

About the lesson

I believe that every student has unique musical potential waiting to be discovered, and my approach centres on creating a supportive, encouraging environment where technical excellence meets genuine musical expression. Drawing from my conservatoire training and decade of teaching experience, I tailor each lesson to your individual learning style, pace, and aspirations. Whether you're a nervous beginner or a confident intermediate player, I focus on building solid foundations while keeping lessons engaging and enjoyable. My method combines traditional classical techniques with modern pedagogical approaches, ensuring students develop proper posture, intonation, and bow technique alongside musical sensitivity and interpretative skills. I'm passionate about helping students not just play the notes, but truly understand and feel the music they're creating. Available for both in-person lessons (covering Salisbury and surrounding areas) and online sessions via video call - online lessons have proven remarkably effective for technique correction, repertoire learning, and exam preparation, offering the same quality instruction with added convenience and flexibility. Many of my students have successfully progressed through their grades and achieved their musical goals through this blended approach, and I'm committed to adapting my teaching to what works best for each individual student.
