About Helena
Hi, I’m Helena. I am a postgraduate with a Master’s from Columbia University and the London School of Economics, and a Bachelor’s from University College London. I achieved a distinction for my thesis at LSE and Columbia, and have extensive experience supporting students with academic writing across disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, and scientific theses.
I take a flexible, student-centred approach, helping you structure your work, clarify arguments, and develop clear, coherent writing. Lessons are tailored to your needs, whether you are drafting a dissertation, refining a thesis, or seeking guidance for other academic writing projects. I focus on practical strategies, clarity, and confidence, ensuring progress feels achievable and manageable.

My approach to tutoring
I take a flexible, student-centred approach, tailoring each session to your goals, level, and the stage of your writing. I focus on helping you clarify arguments, structure your work, and develop clear, coherent, and polished writing. Lessons combine guidance on content, style, and structure with practical strategies for research, referencing, and academic communication.
Techniques and methodology
I work interactively, reviewing drafts, providing feedback, and modelling effective academic writing techniques. For humanities, social sciences, and scientific theses, I focus on argument development, clarity, and logical flow. I also support other types of academic writing, including essays, reports, and coursework. Mistakes are treated as opportunities to improve, building confidence and competence over time.
Typical lesson length
Lessons usually last 60–90 minutes, but I am flexible to meet your individual needs. Sessions can be regular or scheduled around project deadlines.
Qualifications and experience
I hold a Master’s from Columbia University and the London School of Economics and a Bachelor’s from University College London. I achieved a distinction for my thesis at LSE and have extensive experience mentoring students in academic writing across disciplines. I have worked one-to-one and in group settings, helping students develop structured, compelling, and well-argued writing.
