About Adriana
I am a highly experienced teacher who have taught languages for more than 20 years, to all levels, in the US and abroad. I hold a Ph.D. in Spanish (UConn) an M.A. in Latin American Studies (UConn), and a BA-equivalent in TESOL and Education, with added coursework on Translation (Instituto JR Fernandez, Buenos Aires, Argentina). Where credentials have been instrumental for me to grow professionally and I acquired a solid knowledge of language and cultural studies through education, the classroom has been my best teacher. I have worked in diverse and multicultural classes for decades both at the collegiate and high-school level.
I fully committed to what I do and I cannot imagine myself doing anything else.

I facilitate students development of linguistic and intercultural skills by furthering the connections between students' own cultural context and abilities and the acquisition of English as a second language. The class offers contexts for them to use the language meaningfully and for them to relate to what they learn. My classes are student-centered and are meant to facilitate the development of communicative and intercultural competence. My grammar explanations will always come from the specific needs of students engaging in a variety of communicative activities such as dialogues, description of images, role plays and games. Be ready to take the lead.
