About Samir
Hello! My name is Samir, and I am a South African pianist currently studying Piano Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff.
Music has been a central part of my life from a young age. Before I ever had formal lessons, I learnt to play by ear and spent countless hours exploring the piano for myself. That curiosity and love of discovery still shapes the way I approach music today.
As a performer, I have appeared as a concerto soloist with orchestras in South Africa and Wales and have performed in venues across South Africa and the United Kingdom. I have also received masterclasses from internationally respected musicians and continue my studies under renowned pianist Graham Caskie.
Alongside performing, I am passionate about teaching. I greatly enjoy teaching and interactions with people and other musicians. This nudges me towards a more collaborative teaching approach rather than a direct student-teacher relationship, which I have discovered to be a very efficient way to improve at the instrument. One of the most rewarding parts of music is being able to share it with others and help students discover what makes the piano exciting and meaningful for them. Whether your goal is to play for enjoyment, prepare for exams, improve your technique, learn music theory, develop improvisation skills, or work towards advanced repertoire, I aim to create lessons that are engaging, supportive, and tailored to your individual needs.
I believe music should be more than simply learning the correct notes. My lessons encourage creativity, musical understanding, confidence, and self-expression. I enjoy helping students explore how music works, develop strong technical foundations, and find their own artistic voice at the piano. I also often find that my piano lessons with Graham often have underlying meanings and practices that can be applied to daily life.
Students of all ages and experience levels are welcome, from complete beginners to more advanced pianists looking to refine their skills and musicianship.

I have over three years of private teaching experience and have worked with students of a wide range of ages and abilities. Throughout my own musical journey, I have studied with several piano teachers at different stages of development, giving me valuable insight into a variety of teaching methods and approaches.
I currently study with renowned pianist Graham Caskie, who teaches at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. I have also participated in masterclasses with distinguished pianists, including Jams Coleman, Laura Pauna, Martin Roscoe, and Hugues Leclère. I also watched classes from Jean-efflam Bavouzet, The Kanneh-Masons, Peter Donohoe and Alim Beisembayev.
These experiences have exposed me to a broad range of musical ideas and teaching philosophies, allowing me to identify what helps students learn most effectively. As a result, I tailor my teaching to each individual student, drawing on my performance and teaching experience to help every musician develop in a way that suits their goals, learning style, and personality.
My teaching is centred on performance, creativity, and musical exploration. I strongly encourage improvisation, experimentation, and a deeper understanding of how music works. Rather than simply teaching notes, I aim to help students develop their own musical voice, build confidence, and discover new ways of thinking about the piano.
I see the teacher–student relationship as a collaboration. My goal is to guide and support students as we work together to explore music, develop strong technique and musicianship, and find the most meaningful, expressive, and beautiful ways to make music at the piano.
