About Lowen

I’ve been teaching French for 8 years, and it continues to be a joyful, fulfilling experience. I was first captivated by French in my student years when I lived briefly in Lyon and experienced the language in its cultural context. That journey sparked a lifelong passion—not just for the language, but for helping others speak it with fluency and confidence. Over the years, I’ve helped dozens of learners—beginners, travellers, university students, and professionals—unlock their potential through language. My teaching combines academic precision with real-life usability. You won’t just memorise verb tables; you’ll use them in conversations. I believe in communication-driven language learning, which means my classroom is always lively, student-led, and focused on interaction. I provide detailed personal feedback to help you overcome hesitation, improve pronunciation, and build vocabulary that matches your interests and needs. Outside of teaching, I stay immersed in the language through French literature, podcasts, and connections with native speakers. My approach is structured but encouraging—I'm here to celebrate your progress and push you forward when you're ready. Language opens doors, broadens perspectives, and builds global citizens. I’d love to help you open yours.

In Glasgow, my French lessons are immersive, interactive, and results-oriented. We begin with basic structures and essential vocabulary—how to greet, introduce, ask for help, and navigate real-life situations. I emphasise pronunciation early, using a mix of phonetic drills, audio immersion, and repetition strategies to help students sound natural from the start. Each session blends vocabulary with grammar in ways that are easy to remember and apply in context. Worksheets, short dialogues, and visual aids are provided to reinforce lessons at home. As students advance, we take a deeper dive into verb conjugations, past and future tenses, and more nuanced grammar topics like reflexive verbs and relative clauses. All grammar is taught through storytelling, roleplay, and scenario-building. We practise spontaneous speech through games, debates, and audio simulations of real-world conversations. Listening comprehension is supported by French podcasts, TV scenes, and authentic interviews with native speakers, helping learners adapt to different regional accents and speaking speeds. Culture is always a core part of language. You'll learn about customs, etiquette, and expressions unique to various French-speaking countries. We’ll discuss French cinema, news, food, history, and current events to deepen your understanding of how language and identity connect. Homework includes journaling in French, mini writing prompts, and creative tasks like menu reading or trip planning. Whether you're learning for work, study, or personal interest, your fluency goals are front and centre.
