About Agil
I am Agil Pirverdiyev, a FIDE Master and FIDE-certified coach from Baku, Azerbaijan. I have been teaching chess for 15 years and have worked with more than 100 students, all online - in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Europe.
My rating is 2508 rapid and 2411 classical. I won the Under 16 World Championship in 2011 and the Under 14 European Championship, and I took a team silver medal at the Chess Olympiad. I also hold a FIDE arbiter title, and I have first places from open tournaments in Italy, Switzerland, France and Spain.
Families here usually come to me for one of two reasons: a child who knows the rules and now needs real structure, or a young player already in tournaments who keeps losing in the same way. Adults come because their rating has not moved for years and they cannot see why.

HOW THE FIRST LESSON WORKS
Before we meet, send me two or three of your recent games - a Lichess or Chess.com link is enough - and tell me what frustrates you most. I go through them beforehand, so the free 30-minute session is not spent on introductions. I open your own games and show you the two or three things that are actually costing you points.
You leave that session with a straight answer: what I would work on, in what order, and roughly how long it takes. If you decide not to continue, the plan is still yours.
WHAT A LESSON LOOKS LIKE
One to one, online, on a shared board.
- We start with the game or position you brought, or with last week's task.
- I stop at the moments where the game turned and ask what you saw. You do the thinking; I correct the method, not just the move.
- We finish with one clear task for the week - a set of positions, an endgame to master, a line to learn - small enough that you will actually do it.
After every lesson you get the analysed game and the week's task in writing, so nothing is lost between sessions.
WHO I WORK WITH
Children starting out (roughly 6 to 12)
The rules are the easy part. We build the habits that decide games at this age: looking at the whole board, checking what the opponent threatens, not giving pieces away, and converting a won position instead of drawing it. Lessons are concrete and paced for children, and parents get a short note on what we covered.
Juniors playing tournaments
An opening repertoire that suits your style and that you can remember under clock pressure. Calculation and tactics training with a target rather than random puzzles. Preparation before events and honest analysis after them, especially of the losses.
Adults whose rating has stopped moving
Usually nothing is missing from your knowledge. The rating is stuck because the same few errors repeat: moving too fast in quiet positions, no plan once the opening ends, weak endgame technique, or panic when the position turns sharp. We name them and remove them one at a time.
WHAT I DO NOT PROMISE
No mastery in thirty hours. Real progress is steady work over months, and I will tell you honestly what is realistic for your level, age and available time before you pay for anything.
PRACTICAL
- All lessons online, one to one, in English.
- I am based in Baku, GMT+4 - the same time zone as Dubai, so no awkward hours for families here.
- First lesson free, 30 minutes.
- Packages: 5 lessons, or 10 lessons with one free - you pay for nine and we play ten.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
We’re really happy with Agil as our daughter’s chess coach. He did exactly what he promised — in about 30 hours she improved from 900 to 1500 Elo, which honestly exceeded our expectations. His lessons are clear, structured, and encouraging, and he knows how to explain things in a way that really sticks. Our daughter enjoys the sessions and feels much more confident in her games now.
We’re definitely continuing with Agil and aiming for the next level. Highly recommended for anyone who wants real progress with a supportive, professional coach.Agil was a patient and kind tutor to my son. His lessons on chess openings, middle game and end game greatly improved my son’s chess playing.
Thank you coach!View more recommendations
