About Lily

In beginning my journey into Psychology at A-Levels (A*), I have now completed two years of my Psychology BSc at Cardiff University. I have also gained valuable applied experience through my professional placement, working in the UK's largest brain imaging centre, Cardiff University's Brain Research Imaging Centre.

During my placement year, I worked in a multi-disciplinary team using Magnetoencephalography (MEG), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), cognitive, motor and psychological assessments to examine the risk of Schizophrenia in young people carrying copy number variants and gaining comparative insight in their neuronal activity.

After my placement, I utilised my neuroimaging experience and completed an internship that used multiple imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging, multi-shell diffusion imaging and diffusion MR spectroscopy to quantify tissue mechanics, cell specific properties and the diffusion of glial metabolites as well as the collection on blood plasma bio-markers . This investigated causal relationships between imaging and blood-based biomarkers to the earliest signs of behavioural impairment measured through an innovative Virtual Reality task in APOE-4 carriers and non-carriers to explore preclinical Alzheimer’s disease.

I am now completing my final year and am predicted a 1st class degree.

Throughout my learning I have also volunteered with Headway and the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board supporting those with brain diseases.

I am a cheerful and bubbly student with a genuine interest in Psychology which I utilise to create collaborative and enjoyable tutoring sessions.

About the lesson

In previously struggling with taking exams and finding the best approach to revision have since adapted my learning techniques. Research shows that drawing, testing and saying out loud information helps with memory retention. Therefore, I encourage the use of graphs, tables and the drawing out of experiments to help students retain this information. I also find asking questions, encouraging the retrieval and production of important information is extremely useful. Each session will also be tailored to individual unique learning styles and goals.

In being a student myself, I understand the challenges of education and tackling complex topics. This experience allows me to offer an empathetic approach to tutoring in connecting with students on a personal level. I am to create a supportive learning environment where students can feel comfortable in asking questions and building their confidence.
