I lead my lessons through a process of patient exploration, first identifying a student’s existing knowledge to pinpoint exactly where they need support. By bridging the gap between what they understand and the challenges they face, I ensure every lesson reaches a meaningful educational conclusion. I integrate audio-visual aids to clarify complex concepts, ranging from foundational principles like the accounting equation and T-accounts to advanced topics such as indirect cash flow, bond accounting, receivables and inventory accounting, financial statement analyses, and owner's equity accounting.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

    I began tutoring accounting and math after I realized I could help students understand one concept in multiple ways using real life examples. I also used to have challenges with algebra and general math concepts and seeing that I could help people understand easily after I gained understanding increased my interest in tutoring.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

    I teach introductory accounting which exposes business students to the 'language of business' and provides insight as to how transactions affect management, marketing, supply chains and entrepreneurship. Topics in introductory accounting include accounting equation, journal entries, ledger postings, financial statement preparation, ratio analysis/interpretation, inventory valuation (FIFO, LIFO and other methods), receivables, bank reconciliation, payables and bond liabilities, asset acquisition and depreciation and stockholders' equity accounting amongst other concepts. I also teach general arithmetic, algebra and geometry. Partnership accounting and bond accounting are topics I find myself discussing with students a lot but due to the complex nature of accounting for a business owned by multiple people and the intricacies of debt and its maturity, I find conversations on these concepts to be a little long.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

    My pre-calculus teacher in high school and my accounting professor at the university inspired me to have the perspective that numerical concepts don't have to be rocket science which makes students confused and hopeless. They either found a way to bring real-word application to their teaching or found other methods of teaching the concepts.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

    A good tutor should be a quick learner, a patient person, and a dynamic thinker. The tutor must also be adept at observing whether a student understands or is still being challenged by any given concept.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

    At the university, I had a professor who always said "you must try to know what you don't know". I held on to this saying because it challenged me to go further in my quest for knowledge and shun limitations posed by complex concepts/ideas. I understood that if I didn't shun limitations, I would remain ignorant and be unable to pass out knowledge.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

    To this question, I will say that I am not a big fan of managerial accounting or micro accounting. I prefer to deal with accounting from an overview as opposed to a per unit view. I passed the management accounting class at the university, but I still have challenges teaching it off-head.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

    I am very much into PC gaming and I especially love real time strategy games and city management games like Empire Earth, Command & Conquer, Age of Empires, Tropico and Sim City. I also love to volunteer with feeding the unhoused projects and programs.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

    There is a verse in the Biblical book of Proverbs that states "Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips." I've been told by both current and former students as well as by family members that I know how to teach and I'm very patient when explaining concepts to people.
