About Zara
I recently graduated with a First Class (with Honours) Bachelors degree in History. Currently, I am studying for an MA in Historical Research at a Russell Group where I was awarded a fully funded scholarship.
I specialise in Early Modern History, paying particular attention to the experiences of women in Restoration England. However, I equally enjoy Modern History and completed many modules which focused on this era.
History is a literary discipline; it is not just about what you know. You are required to collate and analyse sources (both secondary and primary) and condense them into a readable report. In order to get a high mark, your writing needs to be articulate and well curated. For this reason, I would be more than happy to tutor English Language or Literature students!

My teaching approach begins with assessing the weaknesses and strengths of my student(s). In order to be an effective teacher, you need to truly understand how each individual works best. Some students require a great deal of involvement, for example through heavily directed reading, whilst others work far better independently.
My experience of a degree taught me the necessity of deadlines. Of course they are stressful, but they direct your time and your work well. Much like a to-do list, you can work in a systematic way and see real progress.
Finally, I like to create a space where there is no such thing as a ‘stupid question’. There were many times where I doubted myself, only to find out I was right! If only I had felt comfortable enough to voice my queries or opinions, my learning experience would have been much less stressful. Furthermore, talking through your work aloud, whilst listening to others, helps to develop points and skills far quicker!
