About Taina

I’m an Oxford History graduate who loves plays, theatre and discussing big ideas. I enjoy helping students feel at ease with their subjects, gain confidence in their work and develop skills they can really use in a relaxed, encouraging learning environment.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring

My teaching style is friendly, structured and tailored to each student. I aim to build confidence as well as academic skill, helping students not only understand historical content but also learn how to think, argue and write like a historian. Lessons are interactive and discussion-led, with a strong focus on clarity, critical thinking and exam technique where relevant.

I break complex topics down into manageable ideas, making sure students fully understand key concepts before moving on. Depending on the student’s needs, lessons may include guided discussion, close work with sources, essay planning and feedback, or targeted exam practice. I place particular emphasis on developing strong arguments, using evidence effectively and improving written expression — skills that are essential for success at GCSE, A-level and beyond.

Lesson structure

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although longer sessions are available if preferred. Each lesson is clearly structured, with time for explanation, active engagement and reflection, and I always adapt the pace and focus to suit the student’s goals and learning style.

Qualifications and subject knowledge

I am a first-class History graduate from the University of Oxford, with a strong academic background across a wide range of historical periods and themes. In addition to History, I can also support students in related subjects including Sociology, Anthropology and Classics, particularly where these overlap in themes, methods or essay-based assessment.

Who my lessons are for

I teach students studying GCSE, A-level and IB History, as well as those preparing for university-level study or looking to strengthen their essay-writing and analytical skills. I work with a wide range of ages and abilities, from students seeking extra support to those aiming for top grades.

Above all, I strive to make lessons supportive, engaging and motivating, helping students feel comfortable asking questions and developing a genuine interest in their subject.
