About Matilda
Hello! I'm Matilda, a First-Class English graduate from the University of Warwick with five years of teaching experience and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
Throughout my educational journey—from college to university—I have been involved in teaching and mentoring, and I have loved every opportunity to help students grow in confidence and achieve their goals. I have worked in both primary and secondary schools, supporting pupils with reading development, English, and Creative Writing. These experiences have taught me that every student is unique, and that the best learning happens when teaching is tailored to their individual needs.
I will begin my Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) this August, further developing my teaching practice and preparing for a career in education. I also hold an enhanced DBS check, giving parents and students added reassurance of my professionalism.
English has always been my greatest passion. I believe it is far more than just a school subject—it helps us communicate, think critically, express ourselves creatively, and understand the world around us. Some of the most influential people in my own education were inspiring English teachers, and their encouragement showed me the lasting difference that a dedicated teacher can make. That is the kind of tutor I strive to be for every student I work with.

Every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to suit your individual goals, learning style and pace. Whether you're looking to improve your confidence in English, prepare for exams, develop your essay-writing skills, or explore creative writing, I create engaging and supportive lessons that help you achieve great results and make lasting progress.
My teaching combines clear explanations with interactive discussion, guided practice and constructive feedback. Rather than simply providing answers, I encourage students to think critically, ask questions and develop the skills they need to become independent, confident learners. My lessons are carefully and personally planned around each student's strengths and areas for development, ensuring that every session is both productive and enjoyable.
I have extensive experience teaching English and Creative Writing in secondary schools, and helping primary school students work on their reading abilities. I have worked with a wide range of students with different abilities and ages. My main priority is making my student feel welcomed and supported as I believe in a holistic and caring approach to education.
I hold a First-Class BA in English from the University of Warwick and will begin my Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) this August, further developing my classroom practice and subject expertise.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although shorter or longer sessions can be arranged to suit your needs. I teach students at primary, secondary, GCSE, A-Level and college level, and I also welcome adult learners who would like to improve their English, writing or communication skills.
My aim is to help every student build confidence, achieve their academic goals and develop a genuine enjoyment of English.
