About Harper

I trained as a flamenco musician in Spain for years before building a teaching career that weaves together music, culture, and language, and across fifteen years I have guided approximately three hundred eighty students. My background gives me genuine, lived insight into authentic Spanish and Andalusian culture, insight that purely classroom-trained language teachers simply cannot offer their students. I work particularly well with students genuinely drawn to Spanish culture broadly, not just grammar and vocabulary in isolation from the rich tradition they come from. My teaching style is warm and culturally immersive, reflecting genuine lived experience in Spain, though I remain patient and structured with students building foundational language skills. I have guided numerous students toward genuine fluency and real cultural understanding, watching many develop authentic passion for Spanish language and culture together. Students consistently tell me they appreciate learning something authentic and culturally rich, rather than a neutral, generic version of the language. I take genuine pride in helping students connect with Spanish as a living, breathing culture, not just an abstract subject to be studied. My approach treats language as inseparable from the culture and tradition it comes from. After fifteen years, I remain genuinely passionate about sharing authentic Spanish culture through teaching.

My background as a flamenco musician in Spain shapes a teaching approach where Spanish, music, and culture are genuinely inseparable from one another throughout every single lesson. Lessons often incorporate flamenco lyrics and cultural context, since song lyrics naturally carry rich, authentic vocabulary and rhythm that textbook Spanish rarely manages to properly convey. Vocabulary grows around music, culture, and daily Andalusian life, genuinely authentic words that go well beyond typical, generic classroom material available elsewhere. Grammar gets taught through real song lyrics and cultural conversation, showing exactly how structures function in genuine, authentic spoken and sung Spanish. I encourage students to explore Spanish regional culture broadly, not just language mechanics alone, since genuine cultural understanding deepens language learning considerably over real time. Listening practice uses real flamenco recordings and regional media, exposing students to natural, authentic Spanish rather than a neutral, generic version taught in most textbooks. I keep lessons warm and culturally rich, closer to genuine cultural immersion than a formal classroom lesson, since that atmosphere genuinely helps students connect with the language on a deeper level. Rhythm and musicality of the language itself receive real attention too, since Spanish, like flamenco, has its own genuine rhythm and flow worth understanding. Every lesson leaves students with authentic language and real, lasting cultural connection.
