About Barrett

I am a passionate flute tutor with 6 years of experience, having successfully taught over 150 students. My lessons combine technical skill-building—breath control, tone, finger technique, and rhythm—with creative exercises such as improvisation and performance practice. I customise each lesson to the student’s learning style and goals, making sure progress is steady and the learning experience is enjoyable.

I also provide guidance in sight-reading, music theory, and ensemble participation, giving students a complete musical education. My mission is to inspire students to play confidently, expressively, and with a lifelong love for music.

About the lesson

My flute teaching methodology is built around adaptability, collaboration, and positivity. I begin by understanding each student’s learning style—whether they thrive through visual cues, listening, or hands-on practice—and adapt my teaching to suit their needs. This ensures that lessons are effective, engaging, and enjoyable.

Flexibility is central to my approach. I adjust exercises, repertoire, and practice routines according to each student’s pace, goals, and musical interests, helping them progress steadily while staying motivated. Collaboration is a key component: I encourage duets, group exercises, and ensemble practice, which fosters confidence, timing, and musical expression. Positivity underpins every lesson, creating a supportive environment where students feel inspired to take risks, overcome challenges, and celebrate accomplishments.

In addition to flute performance, I integrate music theory, sight-reading, rhythm exercises, and ear training. This holistic approach ensures that students develop both technical skill and expressive musicality, becoming confident, well-rounded musicians who enjoy their musical journey.
