About Savil

I am an experienced and passionate chess coach with over 7 years of competitive playing experience and a peak Lichess rating of 2000+. As the former captain of the University of Southampton Chess Team, I’ve led training sessions, mentored players of all levels, and achieved strong results in both rapid and classical formats. Notably, I ranked in the top 10 at the UK University Chess Championship, which earned me the rare opportunity to play against Super Grandmaster Anish Giri, former World No. 3. These experiences have given me deep insights into high-level play and the mindset needed for competitive success. I offer online coaching for intermediate to advanced players, including ambitious club players, tournament competitors, and adults returning to the game. My lessons are typically 60 minutes and tailored to each student's goals—whether you're looking to refine your openings, improve tactical sharpness, or master endgame principles. Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, with flexibility for longer sessions if requested. Each class is a balance of theory, practice, and reflection to keep learning effective and engaging. I specialise in coaching intermediate to advanced players (typically Lichess 1400–2100), including teenagers and adults who want to improve their tournament performance, online rating, or general understanding of the game. Whether you're a competitive club player or a serious enthusiast looking to climb the ranks, I'll help you sharpen your thinking, deepen your positional understanding, and become a more confident player.
