About Theo

I am a junior in high school who is half French. My father was born in Montpellier, France, and lived in Paris as well. He graduated high school and spent two years at university there until he visited Atlanta, Georgia. He decided that he wanted to study there, so he decided to build from the ground up because his father did not want to fund his adventure. He worked as a dishwasher in restaurants for years, not speaking English, until he and some French friends decided to build their own French restaurant. Years went on until my dad met my mother in 1998. The restaurant had been his for a few years by then, and he and my mother got married, had both my brothers, and then me as the youngest, born in 2008. I grew up with him speaking French to me and my brothers, so I guess you could say I have 2008-now years of native French speaking experience. Every summer of my life, I've spent weeks upon weeks at my grandparents' house, enjoying time with them, my cousins, and my uncles. As a result of being in France so often, I've made a group of my own friends there who I stay in touch with and hang out with when I'm there. At school in the States, I've attended an international preschool, primary school, middle school, and high school, where I have been in a high-level language and literature class. About six months ago, a family friend who is French re-married an American man with an 8-year-old daughter, and they were looking for someone to tutor her in French. That’s where I came in and began to tutor her and see her grow linguistically. That’s when I got the idea to become a tutor for French online and have more pupils to teach. That’s my story.

1- Teaching Methods:
During the lessons, I always begin by understanding the level of the learner and their strengths and weaknesses. Once I know what they need to work on most, I start by placing them in scenarios specific to their weak points, knowing they may not do well. Disappointed in themselves, this will allow them to recognize the patterns of errors they have been making. Upon becoming aware, I will then begin to instruct them in the correct methods. They will then be placed into similar specific scenarios as before so that the improvement can be seen.

2-A typical lesson plan: Readings, quizzes, fill-in-the-blanks, reviews, speaking, grades, activities, constant speaking (at least the effort to!).

3- What sets me apart as a tutor: What sets me apart as a tutor is my experience with the culture. This means that not only do I have a perfect accent, but I also know the mannerisms and sayings that are hard to come by in relation to teaching French here in the States. Thus, providing a more authentic French experience.

4- Who the lessons are for (degree, level, class, specificities, etc.): The lessons are for low to mid-level French speakers, either complete beginners or people with basic or developing abilities.
