About Lucas
Hello!
My name is Lucas. I'm a dual French-American citizen who was born in Paris. Minus a brief two-year stay in the UK when I was four, I spent my entire childhood in France. This, alongside my French father, ensured that French was my mother tongue- but thanks to my Illinoian mother, I spoke English just as much.
From elementary to high school, I attended an international school, where I made all sorts of friends- some French, some British, some American, some that were much like myself and were some combination of these nationalities, or even others. It was a very enlightening experience, where I was able to help many of my friends learn either English or French as a foreign language. I had classes in both languages, depending on subject, though French was typically the language of choice.
After finishing high school, I took a gap year, during which I moved to the U.S in order to pursue my dreams of studying and practicing Musical Theatre. I'm currently a university student in Michigan, and halfway through my Music Theatre BFA program!

How I approach helping others learn a language :
1 - Establish the current level of the individual, their strengths, their weaknesses, their objectives. Find the best balance between what they would like to do and what they need to do to get there.
2 - Based on previous results, create a personal lesson plan that works for them- the emphasis on 'them' is crucial. As someone who has frequently struggled with teachers that did not understand how best to teach me, I place incredible value on finding the best method for a given person. It's impossible to learn if we're annoyed, exasperated, bored, exhausted. On the flip side, it's extremely easy to learn if we're engaged, genuinely interested in the subject, and view it as a positive experience.
3 - Work with them at their level- improvement is the objective. Being better today than we were yesterday, however slow or fast that goes. Communication is key, and I consider that to be one of my best attributes.
Individuals between beginner and high-intermediate level would be best suited for what I offer. Students of a very advanced level (C1/C2 CEFR) are welcome to have a conversation with me so we can determine whether my assistance would be beneficial!
