About Beth
I am a first-year student at Oxford University - I studied English literature up to A-level and spent a lot of time in 6th form mentoring younger students in French and German GCSE. I have also taught introductory language lessons to primary school classes ranging from Year 3 to Year 6, and have more recently begun tutoring French, German and English online.

I want students to enjoy my sessions because this is the way that they will best be able to engage and get the most out of it. I’ll make sessions friendly and dynamic, and aim to establish a relaxed but focussed and productive environment. I would like to tailor my approach depending on the needs of each student, so will begin by identifying areas to focus on, either from the student themselves or through some short exercises. Lesson structure will vary depending on what we have chosen to focus on, but there are a few general approaches which I think are particularly effective. We’ll start with a quick warm-up activity to ease into the lesson. Then we will work through an exercise completed in advance, focussing on questions or sections they struggled with, working through them so the student can see how to answer something similar in future. Where appropriate, we’ll create individualised strategies for how to tackle certain questions, which I will then formulate into a written resource which the student can use in future. We will discuss revision strategies, and will probably finish by setting goals for the following days or weeks so the student has a plan for what they are focussing on. Every few sessions, I will set some kind of small progress test to round off the skill-set we have been looking at. If you have any more detailed questions about how I would structure a session on a specific topic, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
