About Emma

My name is Emma. I am a native speaker of French who has completed her education all the way up to a Bachelor's degree in France. I graduated top of my class with a BA with Distinction from Université Grenoble-Alpes and obtained an MA in History with Distinction from UCL, where I made the Dean's List. Currently, I am preparing to pursue a PhD in History at UCL. I worked for two years as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school in France, where I mainly taught French, and I have experience tutoring students aged 12 to 18 in English. I have also given informal French lessons to relatives and friends. I have always been passionate about sharing my knowledge and learning languages (I speak four, mostly self-taught). I loved my time as a tutor and a Teaching Assistant, and I hope to help more young people achieve their best possible grades and, hopefully, appreciate French!

How long are the lessons? Lessons are usually one to two hours of weekly sessions, depending on needs and availability. During the exam period, there is always room for additional or longer sessions to ensure you are fully prepared and confident. They can be in person (depending on location) or online. Who are these lessons for? Typically, lessons are for students aged 13 and above who are learning French at school and wish to improve their skills or prepare for exams such as GCSEs, International Baccalaureate, or A-levels. How are lessons structured? Lessons are a supplement to your school curriculum and tailored to the areas where you need support in order to achieve your grades and become fluent. During the first few lessons, we usually review what you have been doing in class and complete homework together. This helps me identify your strengths and weaknesses and which areas you need to work on. I can then design lesson plans that are catered to your needs. The content of the lessons varies widely from student to student, but they usually include grammar points, studying vocabulary, and lots of exercises in comprehension (reading/listening) and expression (writing/speaking). We will often go over things that we have seen the previous week to ensure that they are remembered and fully understood—repetition is key! I also provide you with study tips and techniques that will help you achieve real progress and equip you well for exams. Overall, I am very supportive and positive in my approach, and I will do my best to help you achieve well in your exams and feel confident in French.
