About Alvaro

I am a friendly and patient teacher with three years of experience helping students of all levels learn Spanish. I’m passionate about teaching and enjoy connecting with people from different backgrounds while sharing my language and culture.

Outside the classroom, I’m interested in fitness, sports, pets, philosophy, and photography, and I’m always open to exploring new topics and learning from my students.

About the lesson

I tailor each lesson to your level and goals, ensuring we focus on what is most relevant to you—whether you’re preparing for travel, advancing in your career, studying for an exam, or connecting with family.

Lessons incorporate a variety of materials such as videos, images, grammar and listening exercises, roleplays, and games. Whenever possible, I link the content to your hobbies and interests to keep learning fun and meaningful.

To guide your progress, I create a structured study plan with clear objectives and review your development regularly. This approach ensures steady improvement.

All notes are stored in an online notebook for easy review, and I can provide optional homework to reinforce what you learn between sessions.

Deadly! I've had a few lessons with him now, and I can see I am making progress in understanding Spanish more than I would with Duolingo. He's a great teacher, very friendly, and gives you many opportunities to speak and think on the fly to improve your conversation skills. I would definitely recommend him.

I speak Spanish fluently because of my family, my parents are originally from Latin America. I am a Spanish native speaker.
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
Miguel de Cervantes is an icon of the Spanish Language, in fact, he is considered one of its most important writers.
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?
I think Spanish culture is generally friendly and places a lot of importance on family. I love that.
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
It helps me connect with my origins and a large number of countries speak it.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
Probably the main difficulty for many English speakers is pronunciation, a good tip to remember is that Spanish is a phonetic language which means it is pronounced as it is written, so every single letter is always pronounced.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
One teacher at high school always taught me using funny stories from his personal life and then encouraged me to do the same, I feel that helped me a lot to improve my listening and speaking.
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
Visiting other countries in Latin America has helped me to take note of the different accents and words used in different regions. I find that very interesting.
