About Nicholas

I am a 3D modeller who has completed an Advanced Diploma in Game Art and have worked for a VR house tours company in the last two years. I have only been tutoring for a short time, however I'm hoping to put my skills to use in growing the community of game artists.

My approach to tutoring is patience, allowing you to proceed at your own pace, while making sure you have knowledge on the correct way to achieve your artistic goals as well as showing you how to avoid any obstacles that may get in the way of your goals.

The focus for my course will mainly be:

- Hard surface modelling (Inanimate objects)

- Environment creation (making both large and small scenes made up of many different objects)

- UVs (The "skin" of an object that determines how the textures attach to it)

- Texture creation (Using the open source and free program Krita in place of photoshop)

- Character creation, rigging and animating

I may include homework between lessons, however that will be up for discussion.

For those who are interested in game design as well, I'm happy to teach some aspects of Unreal Engine 4 and how best to use it alongside Maya.

About the lesson

My lessons will focus on the fundamentals of 3D modelling and everything associated, including unwrapping UVs, creating texture maps and ensuring efficient workflows. I will teach some character creation, rigging and animation however, we will begin with the basics.
I will take my students through every aspect of Maya that is necessary to begin modelling along with other methods and options that will save time and frustration.
