About Jen

I’m Jen, I’ve always had an interest in languages, I love looking at patterns within words and making associations of how they fit into the English language.

I’ve always loved languages and helping young people build confidence in their learning. I am a qualified secondary Modern Foreign Languages teacher, specialising in GCSE German and KS3 French, with over 7 years’ experience supporting students, including those with a wide range of SEND needs. Before qualifying as a teacher, I worked as a Teaching Assistant delivering both classroom support and one-to-one interventions. Since then, I have taught across Key Stages 3 and 4, preparing students for GCSE examinations and helping them develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. My lessons are tailored to each student’s needs and learning style. Whether you’re aiming to improve confidence, catch up on missed content, or achieve a higher GCSE grade, I provide clear explanations, structured practice and a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I believe that learning a language should be engaging, practical and enjoyable, and I take pride in helping students make steady, lasting progress.

About the lesson

I like to use a range of techniques, not just the traditional language learning ideas. I believe that language learning should be fun and engaging, something my own teacher instilled in me!

My personal style focuses on the basic grammar, once there is a good grasp on this then other grammatical ideas soon fall into place. I also like to group vocabulary into topics and with progression, apply them to a wider range of scenarios.

As speaking practice is not as effectively utilised in the classroom, I will predominately focus on this, which ties in with listening skills. There will also be dedicated time to practice reading and writing skills, but this depends on what skills you want to practice the most.
