About Marlene
I’m a Criminology and Criminal Psychology graduate with a strong passion for teaching, communication, and helping others build confidence in their learning. I’ve gained experience working in educational settings, including supporting children with additional needs in schools, as well as tutoring and mentoring in both structured and informal environments. I enjoy breaking down complex ideas into simple, clear steps and adapting my teaching style to suit each individual learner, whether they need more structure, repetition, or a conversational approach.
I have a calm, patient, and encouraging teaching style, and I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process. Because I speak English, German, and French, I also understand the challenges of language learning and how to make it more accessible and engaging. My goal is always to help students not only improve their knowledge, but also feel more confident using it in real-life situations.

My approach to tutoring is structured but flexible, focusing on building confidence and practical use of the German language. I adapt each lesson to the learner’s level, goals, and learning style, whether they are studying for exams, improving conversational fluency, or starting from the basics. I place strong emphasis on active use of the language through speaking and listening practice, while also reinforcing grammar and vocabulary in a clear and accessible way. I often use real-life examples, guided conversation, and interactive exercises to make learning engaging and relevant.
A typical lesson lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. This allows enough time to introduce new material, practise it through exercises or conversation, and review key points without overwhelming the learner. I also like to end sessions with a short recap and optional small tasks for continued practice between lessons.
As a tutor, I have experience supporting peers with language learning and academic work, which has helped me develop a patient and adaptive teaching style. I focus on explaining concepts in simple terms and breaking down complex grammar into manageable steps. I am confident in my ability to support learners through consistent practice and encouragement, helping them build both accuracy and confidence over time.
My lessons are suitable for beginners through to intermediate learners, typically school-age students or adults who are learning German for study, travel, or personal development. I tailor my teaching approach depending on age and level, ensuring the material is appropriate, accessible, and engaging for each individual learner.
