About James
I am a freelance writer and NCTJ-accredited, gold standard journalist. Formerly a national reporter for INS News Agency, I am now studying a Masters degree in Creative Writing (Mlitt) at the University of Glasgow. I write a range of disciplines including essays, poetry, short stories, conceptual and experimental pieces.
I was previously based in Bristol where I worked for 72Point (SWNS), and in London, where I achieved the coveted gold standard NCTJ-accredited diploma in news reporting at Press Association. As a journalist, I have written and reported for a range of titles including The Sunday Times, The Times, The Independent, The Mirror, Metro, The London Economic, NME, Guestlist, Public Pressure & The Portsmouth News.
For undergraduate study, I achieved first-class honours in Journalism & English Language at the University of Portsmouth.

Clear communication and empathy are at the heart of my teaching style, as well as a passion for the subject and for student's success. I can offer lessons to students from secondary school to undergraduate level, and tailor classes to each group.
Sessions are rooted in a systemic approach to learning from the subject from the ground up. My techniques and methods are mixed, and grounded in a variation of theoretical, practical and creative exercises for a comprehensive exploration of each topic studied.
Reading, writing - and an appreciation of the pleasures of these disciplines - form the heart of my sessions. As is the core belief in academia, culture and the arts as the key to personal and professional growth.
As a tutor, I am amiable, passionate, understanding and tailor sessions to the requirements of those I am teaching.
