About Colin
I've always enjoyed working with others, but as I age (no laughing at the back please!) I've found I also enjoy helping others to learn and grow.
I've run various in person workshops in the past on the practical side of film making and really enjoy sharing my knowledge with others - but I also enjoy the more intellectual side of film studies and I miss getting into the academic nitty gritty of the subject, hopefully here I can do both.

Constructive feedback is the key to improving your work. Lessons will be focused on the student’s own work, offering incisive analysis and suggestions for improvement - alongside a dialectical approach to deepen understanding of difficult topics, plus practical tasks and techniques designed to help address problems identified and difficulties met.

Colin is the first person I send projects to for feedback, no matter the stage. His insight is invaluable, whether it’s early concept “tyre-kicking” or in-depth script reads and notes. He has a rare ability to pinpoint what’s working, what’s not, and how to elevate the story, making him someone I’d recommend to writers at any stage, from first-timers to seasoned professionals.
Colin kindly offered to have a read through of my television pilot P.R.I. last year I found his knowledge, critiquing (both positive and negative) incredibly generous and helpful.
It has been a little while since our call but I do recall that this wasn't some quick conversation or one line summary this was a deep dive into all aspects of the script that probably took up two hours of his time just on the call alone, the ideas it gave me on where to go next were instrumental in the success I have achieved since.
Since working with Colin my script has gone on to finish in the last 8 at last years Raindance as well as the quarter finals at the Golden script awards

I am currently working on a feature and will without a doubt be contacting him again.
I’ve worked closely with Colin as my screenwriting partner, and I can wholeheartedly recommend him as a screenwriting tutor.
Colin has a fantastic ear for dialogue and a strong, instinctive understanding of structure and character. Colin is adept at working across different genres, and his sense of what works in the industry is grounded in real experience—we developed a film together with the BFI, which sharpened his already strong storytelling instincts. He’s incredibly easy to work with, generous with his insight, and always pushes to find the truth in both narrative and character.
Any writer working with him would be in very good hands!Colin provided really thoughtful and substantial feedback, guidance and advice on my screenplay. He took time to explain points on characterisation, plot and style and really sought to understand my work.
His feedback was done in a supportive and well humoured way and helped me get to grips with the issues I was having with my script.
I would strongly recommend Colin to any writers - he has vast experience and is great to work with.View more recommendations
