About Fawn
I’m currently an engineering geologist. I have an 5-year MGeol degree from the University of St Andrews. After graduating, I worked as a teaching assistant May-August 2019 on a few residential international field mapping courses.
My main interests lie in:
Geological mapping
Geochemistry
Planetary science
Igneous and metamorphic petrology
Mineralogy and petrography
Structural geology
Mapping and cross sections
Mineral resources
I have software skills in:
Microsoft office suite (excel etc)
GIS (ArcGIS and ArcScene)
Leapfrog (3D modelling software)
Broker topspin (NMR software)
THERMOCALC (thermodynamic modelling software)
Research experience:
2017-2018: “The Uses and Limitations of NMR Spectroscopy on identification of nitrogen species within solid substances.”
This was a chemistry-heavy investigation into potential analytical techniques for identifying nitrogen in known and unknown substances. It involved running a series of experiments on a solid-state NMR spectrometer and interpreting and critiquing the results. I received a high 1st class grade for this research.
2018-2019: “The Geology and Metamorphism of Loch Laxford, NW Scotland.”
This was my masters dissertation in which I mapped a section of NW Scotland for 5 weeks (almost all igneous and metamorphic rocks). I followed this up with petrography, geochemical analysis and thermodynamic modelling of the rock samples I brought back to determine the peak metamorphic conditions of the three metamorphic events this area has experience. To do this I used ArcGIS, XRF and THERMOCALC. I received a high 2:1 for this research.
Field experience:
2014-2019: mapping sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks in Scotland and it’s isles
2016: mapping in Spain (heavily sedimentary)
2016: aqueous geochemistry of the Rio Tinto river and a result of acid mine drainage and acid rock drainage
2017: mapping and geological history interpretation in the Swiss-Italian alps.
2018: aqueous geochemistry, mineral resources, water remediation and mine waste management in SW Spain
2019: teaching assistant for field mapping on 2 geology field camps (5 weeks and 3 weeks) and one integrated field camp (day work only)
2020-2022 working as an Engineering Geologist based primarily on ground investigation sites around NW England. Includes soil logging, rock logging, water sampling for testing and supervising site operations.

I’d like to find out what you already know and what is it that you hope to learn. I can use this to build new knowledge on top of existing foundational knowledge. Anyone is welcome: from completely new to A-level to university level: just let me know :)
I enjoy teaching both 1:1 and in a group setting: whatever makes you most comfortable. Both settings can be useful: individual can be good if you have lots of questions meanwhile if that’s a little intense for you, a group setting can be useful where others will ask questions you didn’t even think of and we can have a group discussion.

Deadly! Very nice and clear. Very friendly and precise. Dips and strike are finally understood thanks to her visual support.
- Isabelle has been great to talk to. She was on time to the video chat, explained where she needed help well and was easy to communicate with.Fawn's response :
