About Lisa

Hi! My name is Lisa and I'm a creative writer and private scholar with an MA in literature who probably ought to have gotten a phD instead. I am homeschooling three school-aged boys with learning disabilities, including two with autism. I excelled early at english/writing/reading: I've been writing stories since I was old enough to figure out how to use a pencil to chicken-scratch sentences onto paper, and literary analysis came more easily to me than learning how to ride a bike. I love the intersections of literary studies, philosophy, psychology, logic, and spirituality. My thesis was on Ursula Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness.
I have a deep appreciation for human beings as learners--I believe all human beings are born eager and able to learn, whatever unique challenges and gifts they also bring with them. I appreciate the profundity in a child's examination of a ladybug as well as the deep insights stirred by a good book.
I believe everyone could be laughing and enjoying so much more of life than we are often encouraged to do and that is a foundational element of my teaching philosophy.
I have training specific to early childhood ed, k-12 reading/writing, and university-level writing ed.
I also have familiarity with holistic learning approaches, and a basic grasp on brain development and how vestibular/proprioceptive senses contribute to overall cognitive wellness, with a direct correlation to reading/writing/speaking development. I have done a lot of digging into alternative education methods that I integrate with traditional instructional practices.

About the lesson

I can work comfortably with people of any age group, and my work is wholly individualized according to the client's unique needs and considerations.

**Academics:
At the undergrad college/university level:
-I can assist with basic paper writing and reading comprehension.
-For upper-division work, I can additionally assist with critical/theoretical approaches and more in-depth literary analysis
-for graduate/doc work, I can offer advanced writing feedback/ developmental support for coursework and/or thesis/dissertation, including rhetorical argument analysis/development
K-12:
**Homeschooling (and unschooling) friendly
**I offer IEP/504 plan consultation and assistance with FAPE advocacy
My approach is entirely customizable according to your needs. If you are looking for k-12 level tutoring for english language, I will work with you/your child to determine what your goals/practical aims are, and adjust the approach we take as needed. I very much believe in treating each human being as an individual and will take each unique case into account when designing an evolving course of action. I also believe in student equity. Everyone deserves access to success.
