About Heather
I am a huge fan of languages and would like all young people to have the opportunity to master proficiency in another language and to benefit from the sense of confidence sound learning brings with it. I have made it my mission to enable this to happen wherever I have taught. My teaching career has taken me to some interesting places, from rural boarding schools to top London schools. I have extensive experience of working in the state and private systems. I find it vital to form a good working relationship with my students and to build trust and cooperation, as this is the way to achieve good results. I work hard and expect the same of those I teach. It's vital too that learning should be an enjoyable and satisfying process, so there is always time for a touch of humour.

Lessons usually last one hour online and are modelled on the needs of the student. An MFL lesson is essentially a fundamentally interactive experience.
The first session is used to establish the learner's current level and to gain an understanding of language areas and skills where guidance and practice are most needed. The aim is to build confidence from the outset and to grow the student's assurance in handling examination questions.
Every session contains some work on each of the main skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, and will also focus on key grammar areas appropriate to the topic and the requirements of the learner, providing opportunities for them to accumulate knowledge and understanding, and to feel more in control of their learning.
I have many years of teaching, private tutoring and examining experience and am the author of a number of textbooks and study and revision guides. My focus is currently on equipping GCSE students of French or German to perform well in the new examinations.
