About Francesca
Hello!
My name’s Francesca, and I live in London. I currently work full-time as a secondary school English literature and language teacher (teaching ages 11-18).
I initially completed my undergraduate degree at King’s College London in politics, and then progressed into UCL’s Institute of Education and achieved a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education) in English. Outside of university, I have achieved a 168-hour TEFL qualification, which is equivalent to a two-year university course.
In terms of my teaching style, most of my lessons are based on cognitive science by harnessing and considering the powers and limitations of our own minds when learning content. However, learning is very individualistic and unique to the learner, and so my lessons will vary depending on your abilities and needs. I think my main accomplishment as a teacher is engaging my students in learning and building their confidence, my goal is for you to not only learn, but to enjoy and relish in the learning journey!
As a qualified teacher, I also possess an enhanced DBS certificate as well as up-to-date safeguarding training.

My lessons are usually built around a ‘demonstration of learning’, which is a task that proves that you have learnt the new skill or information that the lesson focused on. I then plan backwards from the demonstration task by creating content and tasks which support your learning. The lesson will end with revision of the main lesson focus.
New research suggests that discussions are one of the most powerful learning tools a teacher can utilise, and so all of my lessons possess an element of discussion and debate in order to support your progression. I conducted my own experiment during university which revealed the power discussion in advancing students’ quality of work, understanding, as well as enjoyment and confidence in the subject.
I believe that good teaching provides students with the tools they need to build their own understanding and interpretations. This means that I do not spoon-feed! Spoon-feeding may help you pass, but only unique and well-intended responses achieve top grades, and that is what I aim for with all my students (no matter ability or current level, I always aim high!)
