About Larkin

I am originally from San Francisco, California, and currently based in London, where I work in climate policy. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Political Economy from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in analytical thinking, writing, and communication, which I bring into my tutoring practice.

Alongside my studies and professional work, I have several years of tutoring experience. During my Master’s at LSE, I supported international students in improving their English skills, and I have also tutored a younger student over a number of years, including working with learning differences. These experiences have strengthened my ability to adapt my teaching style to suit different learners and build confidence in a supportive, patient environment.

I aim to create a calm and encouraging learning space where students feel comfortable asking questions and making progress at their own pace. My goal is not only to help students improve academically, but also to develop their independence and confidence as learners.

Outside of work and tutoring, I enjoy running, hiking, and doing arts and crafts with friends.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is centred on adapting to each student’s individual learning style and needs. I take time to understand how a student learns best, whether that’s through visual examples, structured practice, discussion, or repetition, and tailor my lessons accordingly. I also place a strong emphasis on using real-world examples to make concepts more engaging and easier to understand, while building confidence alongside subject knowledge.

A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, although this can be adjusted depending on the student’s age, goals, and attention span.

I hold a degree in Political Economy from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics. During my time at LSE, I tutored Korean students in English, helping them improve both academic and conversational language skills. I also have long-term experience tutoring a young student in English throughout high school and university, including supporting a learner with learning differences, which has made me comfortable adapting my teaching style to a wide range of needs.

My tutoring is best suited to primary and secondary school students (approximately ages 6–16), particularly in English language, writing, literature, history, and general academic support. I am also open to working with older students depending on the subject and level, and I am willing to adapt or expand into A-level content where appropriate.
