About Kaya

I have tutored for just over ten years, starting out at my university tutoring other students in intro level Spanish. My fondness only grew and I continued to tutor part-time, teaching migrant field workers and their children English. This experience allowed me to gain so much insight as I worked with people of all ages. Further, this was my first time working with students where English was their second language. I currently work in the restaurant industry as well and I am constantly surrounded by native Spanish speakers, giving me the opportunity to continually grow and develop my Spanish. I have also translated in an official capacity for the government, transcribing documents from Spanish to English and vice versa. Lastly, I do also believe that the year I spent in Madrid sets me apart from the average tutor.

About the lesson

I pride myself in being able to create diverse lesson plans to fit each of my students' individual needs. I am able to connect with anyone on any level and make the material easy to grasp. I take a hands-on approach by understanding things that naturally interest my students and being able to turn those into things we can learn about. As a phonology and phonetics specialist, I enjoy not only teaching people about what something is, but also where it comes from.
