About Stanley

**About Me** Hi! I'm a professional bassist with over 10 years of experience performing, recording, and teaching across jazz, classical, and contemporary styles. I’m currently enrolled at The Juilliard School in New York City, where I study in one of the most dynamic and demanding musical communities in the world. Living and working in NYC has allowed me to perform alongside some of today’s leading jazz and classical musicians. From intimate club sets to large ensemble work, I’ve gained invaluable experience on and off the bandstand—learning how to support the music, connect with other players, and bring my voice to any setting. I’ve worked with students of all levels, from total beginners to conservatory-bound musicians. My lessons are personalized and well-rounded, focusing on groove, technique, theory, ear training, transcription, and repertoire. We’ll draw on a wide range of resources—like Simandl, Rabbath, and Bach—while grounding everything in real musical application. What sets my teaching apart is a commitment to helping each student become not just a better bassist, but a more thoughtful and complete musician. Whether you play upright or electric, jazz or classical, I’ll help you build strong fundamentals, develop your sound, and gain the tools you need to thrive. Whether you’re a beginner or preparing for college auditions, I’ll help you build a deep, musical foundation. My Approach Bass isn’t just an instrument—it’s a role. My teaching blends groove, theory, and ear training with technical work to help you become a complete musician. We’ll explore what makes a great bassist: time, feel, listening, and intention. You’ll learn: - How to build solid, musical basslines - How to listen critically to essential records - Theory that’s practical and directly tied to your playing - Technical foundations through Simandl, Rabbath, and Bach studies Lesson Structure Lessons are customized to you. Each session includes warm-ups, technical exercises, guided listening, and applied playing—often working through transcriptions, grooves, and repertoire to help you grow both musically and technically.
