About Mia
I love the English language, it is not only rich and beautiful but it is the world's most widely spoken language. I am passionate about vocabulary, I love learning new words and sharing these with my students.
Learning English can open the door to so many opportunities and it is a privilege to help my students succeed.
I place importance on not only teaching grammar points but helping students to understand the underlying function of language rules so that they can apply them more effectively.
I specialise in academic and professional use of English. For example, helping a English literature student use more complex language in order to expand on a critical theory. Or helping an engineer to learn and use technical and financial vocabulary whilst in the work place.

I am a qualified TEFL teacher, I hold a bachelors degree and have over ten years of experience working with international students as a proofreader, editor and consultant for students ranging from undergraduate to PhD level. I helped my students not only use correct English but structure their written work and express their ideas concisely and effectively.
Lessons are tailored to suit your language goals whether that is improving your academic work, professional communication, or learning the basics of conversational English. Typically lessons last one hour and will be diverse and creative, involving various forms of media. I follow The Oxford Guide to Grammar as a baseline but create lessons that take your personality, level of English and interests into account.
I like to teach interesting, complex and specific vocabulary to make sure that students can express themselves dynamically. Materials used are not generic but chosen so that learning is fun and engaging. I am patient and encouraging teacher and believe that mistakes just take us one step closer to getting it right!
I teach children and adults but I do specialise in helping academics achieve the best results from their written work as well as teaching professionals technical and field specific language. Whatever your are aiming to achieve, the curriculum I teach will be reflective of that. I do not teach generic lessons out of a course book, but instead tailor the course around you as a person!
