About Laura

I have recently graduated from the University of Bath where I studied Spanish and International Management. I spent a year abroad working in Chile and Guatemala and have traveled extensively in Latin America. I have experience teaching Spanish to secondary school and sixth form students. I tutored Spanish in Ralph Allen Secondary School in 2017-2018 and also offered private tuition through a company called Tutor Doctor when I was studying in Bath. A student that I tutored from Bath between November 2016 - May 2017 went from receiving D grades to achieving an A* in his GCSE Spanish.

About the lesson

After an initial assessment, I will set out a plan of how our lessons will progress. Together with the student, we will come up with some objectives for the sessions, ie. To achieve a 7 in my GCSE Spanish Exam, To increase my confidence in speaking Spanish etc. Once we have established the objectives for the tutoring, I will develop a plan for a series of sessions and make it clear for the student what they can expect to cover in each session. Depending on what they would like to focus on they should expect to cover a range of important skills in each lesson from grammar, writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills. I will work closely with the syllabus and content from the exam board they will take their exam with to make sure we are covering relevant material.

When teaching Spanish, I like to make sure students are learning about the culture and current affairs as well. I do this by including activities such as looking at news articles, video clips of recent events, and include these activities into the discussion topics.

I will always ensure that the student is happy with how the sessions are progressing and if they have any changes they would like to make or anything they would like to cover that may have come up in their classes. I will be available by email if they have any questions or would like to request to cover something in their next session.
