About David

大家好! My name is David, I am 33 years old and my passion is China. I read, understand and speak Chinese fluently. In May 2019, I got a score of 263/300 on HSK 5. I am also fluent in English. I am currently the private teacher of 8 students (from primary to college). My interest in China and its culture dates back to my first year of graduate studies at Sciences Po Lyon. By a happy combination of circumstances I found myself in a Mandarin class led by a wonderful teacher whose enthusiasm for this mysterious language really seduced me. Since this first class I have not stopped trying to clarify what was still a Chinese mystery for me. The university diploma specializing in contemporary Asia and language courses was followed by a one-year language stay at the Peking University of Languages (BLCU). Then once I graduated from Sciences Po Lyon and with a Master 2 specializing in China delivered by the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon in hand, I completed a 6-month language study stay at Fudan University in Shanghai. Two years later, wishing to live and work in China, I went to Beijing to try my luck. After a semester of studying Chinese at the Language University in the Chinese capital, I found a job as a translator on national television. I held this position for 4 years. Before returning to France with my Chinese wife, we took a 6-month road trip through China to better understand the reality of this immense country. This great adventure allowed us to better understand the Chinese reality and to know ourselves better. Today back in France, I give support lessons to 8 students, from primary to college.

About the lesson

I offer introductory Chinese language courses and deepening this initiation. Holder of HSK 5 I also offer support for those who wish to pass HSK level 1, 2, 3 or 4. I adapt to the requests and needs of my students. If you want to work on a particular manual then that will be that manual we will use. Otherwise I will offer you a course made by myself and which is inspired by several manuals that I myself used during my apprenticeship (BLCU; Joël Bellassen ...). I will emphasize the aspect of learning that is most important to you. Oral or written expression, oral or written comprehension ... or all at the same time. I will teach you how to use the PLECO application, this wonderful digital tool which will serve as a dictionary but above all as a formidable machine to revise your characters. I will try especially to make you like this language. I will offer you video content, TV series, articles and audio recordings. I will make sure that the course is alive and that it makes you want to continue your efforts. Learning a language must be part of the reality of the culture of its country of origin, so we will often talk about China, its history, its culture, its cuisine and its current affairs.
