About Joonas
Joonas Pekonen is a versatile young violinist from Finland. He attended the Sibelius
Academy Junior Department and continued his degree studies with Merit Palas and Tero
Latvala. After completing his Bachelor's degree he received scholarships to further his
studies with Krysia Osostowicz at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
Being an avid chamber musician Joonas has appeared on numerous festivals both in
Finland and abroad. These include IMS Prussia Cove 'Open Chamber' in the UK, Aurora
Festival in Sweden and Sounds of Luosto Festival in Finland. He has had the privilege of
collaborations with musicians such as Louise Hopkins, Marko Ylönen and Caroline Palmer
among others. Joonas is also the first violinist of the Picea Quartet, with whom he won the
St James' Chamber Prize of 2021.
Joonas was selected to the Finnish National Opera's apprenticeship programme, and has
worked professionally in several orchestras in Finland, in both leader and tutti positions.
He has appeared as a soloist with Joensuu City Orchestra and Kuopio Symphony Orchestra.
Joonas plays on a Anon. "Antonio Stradivari 1699", generously loaned to him by the Finnish
Cultural Foundation.

Due to the ongoing pandemic I have become very comfortable with online lessons on platforms such as Zoom or Teams.
I aim to tailor my lessons according to each individual student's needs and goals. My number one priority is to make the lessons enjoyable and rewarding, as I believe it is the key to achieving one's goals, whatever they might be.
My bachelors studies included two years of violin pedagogy studies. During that I became familiar with teaching beginners and advanced students. I have taught children who have just recently started playing the instrument, as well as adults who after a 20 year break wanted to return to the violin.
